Praha - 2018

Our annual August 15 road trip to the fabulous fried chicken picnic in Praha, Texas. With stops at Kasper's Meat Market in Weimar, the Kountry Bakery in Schulenburg, High Hill and Praha painted churches, the cemetery in High Hill, and more.

The road trip begins with coffee at Minuti on Fry Road.

Our first stop is at Kasper's Meat Market in Weimar to show Angela and Will.

We pick up kolatche and baked goods for later on in the week at Kountry Bakery in Schulenburg. One of my favorite bakeries in this area, along with Lukas and Weikel's, both in La Grange, and Hruska's in Ellinger.

The famous picnic stew or Schuster stew.

Time for some fried chicken. Seasoned flour (salt, pepper, baking powder). A milk and water bath. A dredge in flour. And into the fryer at 325-350 F (temperature drops to around 300 F) for 15 minutes. Small pieces make all the difference in achieving a thoroughly cooked piece of fried chicken with a golden brown crust.
